Hello 2012!
Hey all,
Happy New Year! I trust everyone had an awesome Christmas and New Year’s holiday and is feeling refreshed to take on the new year
Thanks to those who are still reading this and I do mean that sincerely. I’m going to try to be brief because I’ve got a lot to cover in a short amount of space.
So as you may know I went on a big holiday at the end of last year to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Melbourne and in short IT WAS AMAZING! There are so many amazing stories, so many amazing people I met along the way and many more awesome things I want to share but there’s just too much to fit in a post. I was planning to blog throughout my trip but I decided (and I’m glad I did) to really focus and absorb as much of the experience as I could. I felt like if I had to document my trip throughout the 6 weeks it would have distracted me and clouded my appreciation of some things.
But yes Taiwan is a really fantastic country and I do highly recommend you all to visit one day if you get the chance – I’ve been slightly brainwashed. The people I met were indescribable, I’m so fortunate and grateful to have met new friends from literally all around the world: from South Africa to Brunei, from Mauritius to Guatemala, New Zealand and of course our hometown Aussies. It was a comforting experience just getting to know other people just like myself, growing up in a non-Chinese speaking country but having Chinese heritage. If this is all sounding a bit too familiar and mushy to you, then yes I’ll say it – I was Navigating the Global. In search of my roots, I went travelling to re-discover my ancestral heritage to make sense of my present identity…but that’s for another post. I think I’ll leave that to the experts who preside over the English faculties around the state.
I don’t know if I’m going to do a whole post about Taiwan (like I said there’s just way too much and I just would not do the trip the justice it deserves) so if you’re interested and you haven’t already, check out the photos on my facebook and you’ll see what I’m talking about
After spending 4 weeks in Asia (3 in Taiwan & 1 in HK) I spent another week over New Years in Melbourne. A couple of uni mates and I headed down and rented a serviced apartment smack bang in the middle of Melbourne CBD. It was a great opportunity to catch up with them because I hadn’t seen them in over a month. Apparently I came back a lot fobbier but that’s a matter of personal opinion
We ate lots of big breakfasts (at 3pm usually
), took lots of cringe-worthy photos (and luvos), did some shopping (or a lot) and had a few good nights. Now that I think about it, I actually did quite a lot of things in Melbourne because I only had winter clothes after spending 4 weeks in Asia and it hit 40 degrees when we were in Melbourne. My friend’s church friend was nice enough to take us around the suburbs of Melbourne: Balwyn, Chadstone, Box Hill and it was pretty interesting just to check out what the typical Melbourne felt like. I have to say Melbournians in general seem to be a bit more fashionable, every third person dressed like a hipster
Moving on, I started work! These past couple of months have been such a blur because things have been happening at such a cracking pace. I remember having my last exam on the 29th of November and leaving straight after on the 30th for Asia. Then I spent 4 weeks in Asia. Oh! On a side note, my crazy flight itinerary worked out it was heck tiring but everyone went pretty smoothly. The worst thing that happened was probably my shampoo exploding inside my luggage from HKG-SIN but other than that it went ok
After Asia, I flew on to Melbourne from Hong Kong via Singapore and KL (I don’t recommend double connections -_-) on the 29th. I got back on the 5th of January and started work the following Monday on the 9th! So things have been moving at a lightning speed.
My new internship experience has been really exciting so far. The people are super friendly and nice and have been really patient with me which is more than I can ask for. The workload itself has been quite intense the past couple of weeks. One team member left 2 weeks after I joined and since then I’ve been juggling between trying to master the intern’s role as fast as I can and taking on some of his previous responsibilities. I won’t lie, it’s been hard work but it’s also been very rewarding. I’m a strong believer that given the right circumstances the more effort you put in the more you get out of any task not just in terms of technical knowledge but personal satisfaction as well.
2012 is my year. It’s been a great start to the year and I’m feeling really pumped and motivated at the moment so I’m going to try hard to keep the momentum going.
Which brings me to my next point.
I will be closing this blog down.
Yes you read correctly, I will be shutting down this blog. I’m not sure if I’ll reopen it again in the future at the present. Over the coming weeks things are going to happen which will shape the future of my next 2-3 years and I’m not going to take any risks. So what is this horrendous beast? Graduate recruitment. Yes the time has come for me to go job hunting. It’s both a very exciting and nerve wracking period ahead. We just had our third and final B@cc camp two weekends ago and discussed lot about the process. I don’t want to get ahead of myself and reveal too much but I will say this come the end of March offers will be made and contracts will be signed so it’s definitely serious stuff.
If you want to keep in touch by all means drop me an email (lam.bosco@gmail.com) but for now (but hopefully not for long) goodbye and good luck all!
P.s I’m going to Berlin for exchange!!!

whoa, that’s quite the year ahead of you Bosco! Best of luck.
btw, when you say shutdown, do you mean just leave it dead in the water i.e. no updates or actually lock it up and all?
noooooooo don’t close it down !!!!!
i am sure you will want the occasional vent/rant/spot of weirdness – where else will you for an outlet for this?!
